Records of the Minnesota Superintendency of Indian Affairs, 1849-1856 [microform].

Correspondence, accounts, legal papers, petitions, muster rolls, and related records documenting many aspects of the superintendency's administration of the Dakota, Ojibwe, and Winnebago tribes within its jurisdiction, which included present-day Minnesota and eastern North and South Dakota. It was served by the St. Peter's Agency near Fort Snelling and the Winnebago and Chippewa agencies in central Minnesota.

Orlando Brown was born September 26, 1801, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to John and Margaretta Brown. He is a descendent of John Preston of Londonderry (now Northern Ireland) through his father's mother, Margaret Preston. Willis A. Gorman was born January 12, 1816 in Fleming County, Kentucky, the son of David and Elizabeth Gorman.
